HAVE YOU EVER PLAYED the “What If” game? For years I worked at a national youth ministry organization—traveling, planning events, training students and workers, etc. On road trips, one of my favorite ways to pass time would be to strike up the “What If” game. I’d propose various scenarios and wait for feedback from my fellow passengers. The questions could be as simple as: What if there were no McDonald’s? How would life be different? Or they might be as complex as: What if modern medicines didn’t exist?

As a planner, I often play the “What If” game. What if I could duplicate myself? Would my job be easier or would I simply be twice as difficult to please? What if I could increase my event attendance tenfold? What challenges or rewards would it bring? What if I had an unlimited budget to plan my events? What elements would I add to my wish list? What if I could utilize any venue in the world for my conference? Where would I choose? What if I could surround myself with the greatest meeting planning team in the world? Who are people I would recruit for this team?

We all have an opportunity to dream. In fact there’s a fine art to dreaming. The biggest obstacle to dreaming is time. It’s easier and quicker to maintain the status quo, but to do so could also be the death-blow to our events. In a world full of choices, what will set your event apart from other choices that your attendees have? What will be the cutting-edge programming, dynamic content, advanced technology or latest networking trend that you’ll incorporate into your next event? With faith-based events, the message doesn’t change, however we often forget to change other aspects in order to stay current with our audience.

Rejuvenate and Rejuvenate Marketplace are dedicated to bringing you the “What If’s” of the meeting planning world. You’ll find articles packed with tested ideas, programming suggestions, and planners who have been on the front lines and survived to tell the story. The Marketplace connects planners and suppliers in a productive networking format; quality education sessions designed to take the faith-based planner to the next level of their professional development; and innovative networking opportunities.

I hope you’re enjoying the direction we’re going. All of life changes and so should our events, planning processes, and programming. Take time to dream and play the “What If” game. I’m sure you and your attendees will be rewarded for it!

Be careful out there!
